Structure
- 2” thick stainless steel floor plate bridging the two structures
Challenge
- challenge to bridge across a seismic joint with a slab and stainless steel plates, while maintaining pedestrian friendliness in the heart of the new JAVITS exhibition hall space
- provide a structural seismic rated expansion joint to handle extremely high forklift and heavy equipment operator loads for the JAVITS floor, upwards of 33,000 lb point loads
- Wabo®SafetyFlex (SFP)-600 was selected to bridge the massive JAVITS joint on BOTH ends, a total of nearly 700 feet
- We finished each end of the massive level 3 with Wabo®Seismic Wall Panels at 120 feet
- There are nearly 100 stair levels featuring WBA joint solutions in the structure. In the large atrium and massive loading dock areas
- Wabo®FireShield in hundreds of feet of material are installed throughout
- 27" seismic joint between the two JAVITS centers (old and new) where SFP was used, as well as WFT seismic wall panels to join the two structures together
- Wabo®HSeal and Wabo®FireShield, Wabo®Seismic Wall Panels adjoined the two buildings
- The customer service and troubleshooting and coordination with the design team, LendLease Turner / Joint Venture and Commodore construction was critical to securing all of the expansion joint requirements on the project
