WBA provides engineering excellence with tunnel seal technology

In order to reduce travel times and eliminate the need for transfers, a 1.9-mile underground light-rail system was built in downtown Los Angeles. When it opens in 2022, the Regional Connector Transit Project will improve access to local and regional destinations and will be an alternative to congested roadways.

The design-build extends from Los Angeles Metro Gold Line Little Tokyo/ Arts District Station to the 7th Street/ Metro Center Station through downtown Los Angeles. It will include 3 new stations: Central, Broadway and Hope. People will now be able to ride from Santa Monica to East Los Angeles and Azusa to Long Beach without transferring.

Watson Bowman Acme proudly carries the Trelleborg brand of tunnel sealing systems. The Trelleborg Omega Seal was specified as an ideal solution for this $1.756 billion tunnel project due to its ability to withstand high water pressure in combination with large movements in all directions. Working closely with specialty contractor JNA Builders, WBA supplied thirteen Omega Seals in total; twelve were installed in 2019 and the remaining will be installed in the SEM Cavern in 2021.
